clonezilla messed up my source

Hi,

I have two external drives, one of them had a healthy ubuntu system. I used the clonezilla cd to clone the ubuntu hard drive to another external hard drive. Now, I cannot boot from the source. The files to the target seem to have copied...

More detail... I can get to grub menu but nothing really boots... I've tried from a third pc with ubuntu
Code:
grub-install --root-directory /media/external /dev/sdb
I tried
Code:
sudo update-grub -o /media/external/boot/grub/grub.cfg
and created obviously the local machines kernerls too and the external drive ones... still cannot boot...

any help?

thanks!

Managed to resolve it so closed. Still very concerning and annoying that clonezilla messed up the source hard disk.

Once your copy was made, was it still connected to the computer when you attempted to reboot into the original drive? Having two identical disks like that attached to the computer can cause grub to get confused.

No. External disks were removed prior to rebooting.

What I suspect it happened was that because clonezilla has an intermediate step of creating an image, it used the source for it, and this might have messed the source disk.
