Cloneing a virtual machine using virt-manager tool?

I tried to create an virtual clone with different stroage in virt-manager tool.

For example:

/dev/vg000/vm1/==>is a first virtual machine which i am created
from that i need to create a clone using [virt-manager GUI tool]

for that i am using virt-manager tool,but while cloning from vm1 its created but the storage is same [/dev/vg000/vm1]...

How to create an separate storage for cloning a VM?

[Note:I am using Virt-manager GUI tool ,If i created using command line it works[eg: virt-clone --original vm1 \--name vm1-clone \--file /dev/vg000/vm2] but it takes more time to create clone.]

Can you suggest some idea to take it forward.

Regards
arun

You could clone the virtual drive with dd or clonezilla.

I don't know, sorry. I've only used virt-manager gui to clone a vm. FWIW, in my setup kvm is running under and older Fedora 15 host.

Question Reg:cloning

hai,

I too use the same tool virt-manager in cent-os.In that their is an option called clone when i rght click vm1.

I Just mention my requirement.

I installed Cent-os on hostmachine.And using virt-manager i have to install 4 vm as guest machine.For installing on guest it takes more time to install for that purpose i move on to cloneing.

In my requirement for example i said.

I have two vms vm1&vm2

from vm1 i have to create a clone named vm1-clone.i created using virt-manager their is an option called clone if i clicked that the vm1-clone is created as expected within 2 min .But the issue behind the cloning is the storage is same .

For vm1 ==>/dev/guest_lvm/vm1
For vm1-clone ==>/dev/guest_lvm/vm1

But ip address are changed for vm1 & vm1-clone as expected.Bcoz i am using DHCP .

But my question is can i create a clone on seperate stroage for vm1-clone.And if you come across the issue while using virt-manager Gui tool please tell me the suggestion to take it further.

Regards

It is probably only possible to clone the vm not the virtual disk. You'll have to do it by other means.
