Clone/back up HD

I am not a complete noob, BUT I sometimes have a bad case of cranial rectumitis and "break my install". I have a HD set up as

/ 20 G
/home 50 G
swap 3 G

I am not anywhere near disk capacity about 5G in / and about 3G in /home.

I have a 40G usb HD that I could use to clone to, but haven't had any luck with clonezilla or ghost for linux.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

What specific problems did you have? Did you try to clone the two partitions or the whole drive? Did you do it as an image or clone partition to partition, drive to drive? Were you not able to boot the cloned drive?

I figured it out. I was trying to go partition to partition and the /home was larger than the target drive.

I ended up using the image option and it looks good. Completed without any errors.
