Clock problem

Ok, I just installed Mandrake 10 on a laptop to get familiar with it before committing my desktop to it. Big initial problem: The clock time is four hours slow. When I try and change it, the system crashes. I've never used any Linux distro before and have no idea what I'm doing. Any idea what's going on and, more specifically, how I could fix it?

Oops... hehe the screen was going blank, I just had to move the mouse and it popped back up. Man I'm stupid...
