Question client side smtp problem

for a few weeks i haven't been able to receive mail using both netscape and mozilla mail programs, I positive all the information has been entered in correctly. To test if it was the server i went to another win-box on a totally different network and used outlook successfully to receive mail from the server. The odd thing is that mail was working ok a few weeks ago. Can anyone suggest anything, i am sure that the information is correctly entered. Any clues?

Is your firewall blocking outgoing port 110 (? or is it 25, sorry I'm a bit out of it) network activity? That's the first thing I'd check.

Cool

I check my tables, i have them all clear and as far as i can tell nothing would be blocking port 25, but there again im not a expert at iptables, but they look clean

Hmmm... Not to trick you into trying another mail client, but could you also give other mail clients a run, maybe kmail sylpheed and/or pine. The main reason I'm thinking this is because I've never used the NS or Moz mail clients, and since the browsers are twins, maybe the mail clients have the same flaws as well? Anyway, just more ideas since I've got no idea what's going on and I can't give you back your 0 replies status so I will try to help however I can

Cool

I tried giving Evolution a try, but that gave me a no rout to host error, It must be a configuration problem on my part some where, sinice i know the address is up. But i can't figure it out, I dont seem to have a rules defined in iptables.

Get a program called firestarter from www.freshmeat.net and use it to configure your iptables scripts. It's probably going to be the easiest route to ensure that is not where the problem is lying. Also, check your log files for info on errors from sending. They might hold a clue for you as well.

Cool
