Question clearos help

Hi

I'm new to Linux and live in a place where internet bandwidth costs an arm and a leg.
I have been playing around with Clear-Os, and would like to know how to block windows update and certain websites.

thanks

Hi ratzim

Do you want to block websites from your computer only?...or you want to block websites from 2 or more computers connected in a network?...Because if you want to block websites for a certain network you can use squidGuard to implement this (you need to implement squid first). Or if you want to block websites from your Personal computer only you can use the BlockSite add-on for Mozilla Firefox. The links i send you shows instructions of how to install and implement this.

About block Updates...well...This is linux . Do you know that some program(s) are trying to download something automatically from internet?...because by default linux doesn't download updates automatically...If that's the problem maybe you have some applications that you need to identify first. Can you give me more details about that?

Best regards.

Hi PhoenixzeroX

sorry for the unclear explanation, i help out a school that has an internet connection with (sad to say) 1 gig bandwidth a month, there are five windows P.C's on the network. my problem being is that they all automatically download or update, Anti virus, adobe reader, java, windows etc. they cannot afford expensive windows servers and firewalls as they rely on outside donations. i manually download updates at home and then install them on each P.C, but somehow their bandwidth still gets chewed up quick.
i have a spare P4 computer that i would like to use to install Clear-OS so i can monitor users and share the bandwidth evenly and block unnecessary traffic.
Please advise if this is a good Linux solution or on an easier way forward.

Thank you in advance
Kind Regards,

Ratzim
