Clearing cache memory

As suggested here: http://www.linuxinsight.com/proc_sys...op_caches.html ,

Cache memory can be cleared using:
echo 3 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches

But "/proc/sys/vm/" has read only permissions even for root.

How can I create the concerned file......???/

You can't. Fortunately.
Did you read the whole article ?

This tunable was added in 2.6.16.
What is your kernel level.

hmm.....BTW my Kernel is 2.6.9-42.ELsmp...so is there any other way to clear the cached memory that is displayed by "free -m" ??

Indirectly perhaps.
What say you describe the problem you believe you have rather than attacking a potentially irrelevant possible symptom.
