Clean load for ubuntu 14.04
 

Attempting a clean load. Presently have Ubuntu 11.04.
I have Ubuntu 14.04 on a thumb drive. Right click obtains this message, “This medium contains software intended to be automatically started. Would you like to run it?”
When I click “Run” I get an error message “Cannot find the auto-run program”.

What's wrong? What's to be done?

I formatted my 4G USB (Universal Serial Bus) stick and loaded it with Ubuntu 14.04 using the “Startup Disk Creator” which I found on the dash. Opening with the “auto-run prompt”, gave me the following message;
-- This medium contains software intended to be automatically started. Would you like to run it?--The software will run directly from the medium "New Volume". You should never run software that you don't trust.

If in doubt, press Cancel.--

When I clicked “Run” I got the error message “Cannot find the auto-run program”.

My motherboard is an ASUS M2N SLI Deluxe. Presently running Ubuntu 11.04 at 64 bits/

Is there an “Auto-run program” some where that should be loaded on my USB stick?

Still haven't been able to get a clean load. Doubtless an expert could do it in a jiffy. Been trying to use the advice of an expert. Failed, too much for me. Apparently “Auto-run program” was used in an earlier version of Ubuntu. Would it be practical to reinstall windows, XP (how do?) and then try loading Ubuntu.. My pertinent data is saved on thumb drives so I'm open to suggestion. I could format the disk with Partition Commander. There really ought to be a better way for a clean load.

Your terminology is a bit of a problem - what (exactly) do you mean by "clean load" ?.
You say you have Ubuntu and XP already installed " - was this a wubi install ?. Are you trying to upgrade the Ubuntu ?. Or are you trying to do a total new install of Ubuntu, replacing everything - including your Ubuntu user data ?.
That disk is meant to be booted, not auto-run from Windows.

Please post a link to the "advice of an expert" you mentioned so we can better understand what you've tried.

---xJackx Yes, if this is all that can be done!!! I've backed up my data on thumb drives and ,of course, user data may be lost in a total install. (A “clean load", guess thats the meaning of 'clean', got the term from another web site.)

---xJackx Oops! What disk? I do have my old XP installation disk, not presently installed. Also have Ubuntu upgrade disks, to 11.10 and 14.04 on a thumb drive.

---xJackx Went to the web site of Mr. Roderick Smith. Couldn't get any of his stuff to work. I'm sure he could have done the job in a trice.
