CLAMAV Update - Fails Ubuntu 9.04
Hello,
I have succeeded in setting up Ubuntu 9.04(64) onto my new PC. The process has gone well and is in marked contrast to the last time I tried Linux (few years back). System details: ASUS P5Q PRO Mother Board (Gb LAN 8-ch HD Audio Crossfire) Intel® Core™2 Quad Q8200 Quad Core 4x2.33GH CPU,Western Digital Black Caviar 500GB SATA Hard Drive.WD5001AALS. The issue I have is that I have been having difficulty updating the ClamAV database and not suere I have succeeded. I have tried through the GUI route and I get 'Update failed'. I have then gone the route of using the terminal with the command and results below: psas@psas-desktop:~$ sudo freshclam ClamAV update process started at Fri Apr 10 14:28:16 2009 WARNING: Can't query current.cvd.clamav.net WARNING: Invalid DNS reply. OK apologies.Having succeeded in connecting to ClamTK link the issue is known and the answer is below. In case anyone needs it.
====================================================================== Are you using Ubuntu? You probably noticed you can no longer manually update signatures as an end user. This is because of apparmor. A bug report has already been filed and it will be fixed soon. In the meanwhile, you can either use the system-wide antivirus signatures, or temporarily disable apparmor: sudo /etc/init.d/apparmor stop (update your signatures manually) sudo /etc/init.d/apparmor start Ubuntu (8.10) has version 3.11 and not the new 4.x series. Try the 4.x series *.deb file - it was built on Debian but works on Ubuntu as well. ====================================================================== Kind Regards, Paul |
