Angry Chrome & FireFox locking up in Ubuntu

For weeks now, Ubuntu, recurringly throughout the day, notifies me that pages I'm running in Chrome are "non-responsive". This occurs after my hard drive whirls loudly.

Closing the unresponsive pages usually doesn't help because my browser locks up.

Firefox locks up by becoming grey.

I'm sensing it's Google products, especially i-Google which I use as my Dashboard, but also g-Mail & Notebook, that are the culprits.

The recurring "Chrome & Firefox Stabilization" upgrades I've been loading have not helped.

Any thoughts, helpful folks?

What happens if you disable them?

Kind regards

Chrome runs longer and better without locking up if I don't run i-Google and continue to run g-Mail & Notebook.

It's not feasible to disable g-mail as I run the entire Google Suite through Google Apps.

Thanks,
Gary in Toronto
