Exclamation chown/rpm segmentation faults


Everyone:

I have a FC4 server that I have root access on. Just recently, I went in to install squirrelmail, and when I went to chown the files, I get:

Segmentation fault
I also notice it now that I get it when I run any of the rpm commands as well. I'm not sure what other programs are affected.

What could be the problem? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

If the problem appeared independent of any upgrades or software changes
I'd suspect the RAM is giving up the ghost. If you did update some software
(e.g. rpm or glibc) that may well be causing the problem. Try to strace one
of the processes and see where it dies.

I'm assuming the line

is the culprit. When I starce'd rpm, the same line appeared, so I'm assuming it indeed is the problem. How can I add that back? I googled it, but don't see any info on it, except for how to install ld.so.preload-manager.

That line is actually harmless. The problem is that your chown is trying
to free a piece of RAM which is still in use by one of the threads it
started (or that's what I gather from that output). What does the rpm
say when you strace it? And again the question: what has recently been
changed? Is the machine yours, is it publicly accessible?

I can't remember updating/installing anything recently. Nothing has changed for some time. This server is my mail server, that I run on a dedicated box supplied by Virtuoso Network Solutions.
