checking wether harddisc use DMA

hi everybody,

how can i determine wether my IDE-harddiscs use DMA and not PIO?

in windows, my harddiscs are running with PIO by default and i had to turn it to DMA in the system control menu.

where do i have to look under linux?

i use FC 4...

thx for every help!

Code:

man hdparm
To get you started, use the following command
Code:

/sbin/hdparm -i /dev/hda
Replace /dev/hda with whatever device you have. And you have to do that as root.

thx tuxrules!

i didnt even know the name of that command...

linux seems to be more intelligent than windows (ok, no real surprise..) since it switched my harddiscs automatically to udma2....

There's both '-i' and '-I' as the man page indicates.

Thanks for picking this thread man. I was actually looking for a thread on hdparm, which I believe you posted some time back. I couldn't find it so gave a short answer. :D
