Well one way on any Red Hat or Fedora Core distro or any other distro that uses RPM for package management is to enter:

Code:
rpm -q gcc
On my Fedora Core 2 machine that command returns,

Code:
gcc-3.3.3-7
So, my gcc is version 3.3.3-7.

Hope this helps,
