Changing system default Aliases

My linux OS comes installed with a java command that by default leads to a 1.4.2 JVM. I have installed a Java 5 JVM and replaced the old alias with one that points to the new JVM. However, every time I start up my comp, I need to replace the old alias with the new one AGAIN. Is there a way to permanently change it?

If you tell us which "linux OS" you're using we may
be able to tell you where such things are being set...

I haven't used SuSE in ages - look in /etc/profile ?
Alternatively, check for java-stuff in /etc/profile.d

Cheers,
Tink
