changing root password

How do i change my root password, my friend saw it by accident, and i rather change it instead of keeping it..

So how do i change it, and will my friend knowing my old root pass affect anything? So if i change it, and he still knows the old password, he won't get to mess anything up even if he knows the old pass?

Login as root, or "su -", and type "passwd". It will ask twice for the new password.

Nope. Once it's changed, it won't respond to the old one.

Tongue in cheek here, but what kinds of friends do you have who are actively trying to hack your system and gain root access??? -- J.W.

Did you accidently type it into the login entry instead of password? I hate when that happens.
