changing resolution

Hey,
I just got a new Viewsonic LCD monitor. However my Linux Fedora Core 2 is still configured for my old CRT monitor. My new monitor can handle a higher resolution of 1280*1024. Can someone please help me to reconfigure linux to fit my new monitors specs. Also is there any thing like Microsoft cleartype for linux.

Thanks a lot

Jerome

Edit your /etc/X11/xorg.conf

In the Red Hat menu, there's probably some graphical utility to change it. I'm not sure. You should learn the standard way though.

As root, open up /etc/X11/xorg.conf with your preferred editor. Scroll down to Section "Screen". You should see a list of resolutions there. Those are the resolutions X will try by default. You should add the one you want to each of the entries labelled Modes. Then restart X and see if it works.

As far as cleartype goes... Are your fonts not already antialiased? Please give more details as to what you're talking about.

hey guys thanks for all the help. I tried that but somehow it did not work for me. I found the graphical utility so if anyone has the same trouble it is system-config-display
