Changing password in maintenance mode
 

Hi,

"An error occured during the file system check.Dropping you to a shell.The system will reboot when you leave the shell.

Give root password for maintenance ( or press Control+ D for normal starting ) :

bash:whoami :command not found
bash:mesg:command not found
bash:dircolors:command not found

root@abc:passwd root
bash:passwd :command not found "


When I enter the root password in the "Give root password for maintenance ( or press Control+ D for normal starting ) :" and press enter, I was bring to the shell prompt but it does not allow me to change the root password.Is there limitation on the maintenance mode?

umm.... i think maintanence mode is for maintanence and not like regular root use so it might not have all the functions, probably because the system didnt turn on fully? ... whats the option to view all the commands possible? is it like tab orsomething? then it says view all xxxx [y/n] ... i think you should try that command and see what options you got.. but since the computer didnt turn fully on [right?] i guess its missing some things for regular operation..

Ok..I have press the tab and the command to change the password is not listed --> passwd

hmmm yeah i dont think you can do taht stuff from there then... i know cuz like some commands like init x [0-6] i tried them with regular user and then su and only su worked so i guess maintanence, root and regular user all have different command options.. :-/ oh well... i guess changing root password isnt their idea of maintenece :) ... but whats wrong with your computer?

I guess you are right...some commands are not available in the maintenance mode.
