changing mouse cursor

How can I change the mouse cursor in linux?
I run fluxbox, and sometimes KDE. But it should work on both if a change is made somewhere in the system right!?

Right now I have a black default pointer, but I would like to put some color in it... or maybe change it alot... is that possible in linux, and if it is then how?

In KDE there is the Control Center which can be accessed from the menu KDE Start Menu->Settings where you can configure any aspect of your KDE desktop.

I've never used fluxbox, so I cannot answer that part of it.

In Control Center, you must choose,

Peripherals -> Mouse.

Choose the cusor theme tab and you can configure the mouse cursor there.

Hi,
http://kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=14906
you can also install themes per user in your ~/.icons folder

OK, itīs easy for KDE, but is it possible to change the cursors outside of KDE? I mean, can I tell X to use different cursors independently from the win manager?

KDE Cursor (control center)

There is no "cursor theme" tab in current versions of KDE, at least none of my installs.

Any other ideas?

Landis.

How to Install New Cursor Themes

For most themes, which come with an install script, just run the script! :D Cursors, manually, may be installed on`/.icons/NameOfTheme, or the name which you define below:

The following, tells x to use 'NameOfTheme' as the default system cursor:
Add a file .Xdefaults to /root directory, if it doesn't exist, and add this to it:
Xcursor.theme: NameOfTheme

Alternatively, be sure to add 'index.theme', inside the root folder of each of your themes:
`/.icons/NameOfTheme/index.theme

inside index.theme, place:
[Icon Theme]
Inherits=CURSOR_THEME_NAME_HERE
Comment=BLAH_BLAH_B:AH
Name=WHATEVER_YOU_WANT

I hope this works for your distro/security level, too! :p
