Changing from Kubuntu to Suse, any ideas?
 

So, today i came to this thought :
- I really really really "#¤)&!#%!(")¤( hate Microsoft! -
They want money for everything!

Which brings me to this :

As i tell you this, keep in mind, i'm speaking as a Windows-user since the dawn of time, okay? Please be gentle with your judgement afterwards, i'm just sick and tired of Windows and want something as easy and good-looking, only with the Linux-stabile-goodness..?

I've loved and hated Kubuntu and Ubuntu (used it for 2/3 years) and now I thought it was time for something new. I just don't get it! When we have a !"%!"'d up OS like Windows, why has not someone made an OS which is easy and free? (I'm not the guy with all the news, so i apologize if anyone feels hurt)
I mean, Kubuntu/Ubuntu/RedHat should all be really easy,but there are small things that i miss, like automatic/help for mounting ntfs-drives for people who want to change from windows but ain't ready to take it to the next level yet, decent support from OO/Koffice to *.doc etc.
Last but not least, RedHat, supposedly the easiest on the market, it didn't recognize anyone of my cards in the PC.

So i'm going to try Suse now, wish me luck, maybe i'll find the force....

I have bad news for you - if OO and KOffice don't do it for you
in Ubuntu they won't do it other distros, either. Distro makers
commonly don't modify packages of that size/complexity.

If by "taking it to the next level" you meant mounting a partition... I'll take you to the next level :).
This can't be a reason to switch to suse.

Hehe, i'm really sorry about this thread...it's just that i'm really frustrated over Windows, and everytime i try Linux something goes wrong....as for the OO and Koffice....as i said, i'm really frustrated, so i forgot that OO does the job...sorry :/

As for the mounting, i know that command by heart know, i just wish that there would be a decent program for mounting all of that already installed with the distro so that all the guys who are tired of MS can start with something...easy..? :)

suse doesn't have that eighter. Right after installation, it mounts your windows partition as /windows-c/
But with any new harddisk, you have to do it yourself.
I must admit I prefer editing a configuration file to mount helpers (there are such programs) One comes with DSL (damn small linux). I can't give you any names though.

Hmmm...okay, well, i guess i just have to give it a shot :)
I can't stop until i find the distro fitting for me :D

I.e. i'm a linux newb, but i'd rather jump right into Slackware then one more day with Windows :p

If you could just stop whining and tell what your problem is, using punctuation...

There is a SuSE YaST partitioner program that you can use to mount an ntfs partition.
It will even resize it if you want to.

One benefit of adding a ntfs mount this way is that it will add the proper font encoding option. However, you need to add the option "umask=000" when using the program so that you can read it as a normal user.

This does beg a question however. As fed up as you are with Windows; why do you have an ntfs partition on your computer?
