Changing distribution but retain all personal files

Have installed Xubuntu with /home on second hard drive. If I change to a different distribtuion such as Mint Mate do I have to delete all the hidden files in my home directory?

Welcome to LQ.

Mint is an Ubuntu clone. Ubuntu is a Debian clone.
Shouldn't matter which Mint you choose :
It's all the same hidden files in /home/<user>.
No reason to delete anything.

Thanks for that. Experimentation has been in Virtualbox to date so never worried about reinstalling before.

My /home lasted 8 years (until a nasty accident), through Fedora, Debian, and CentOS. Over the years one acquires a few redundant files, but I never had any problems.
