changing default X server

Hi, i just installed fedora core 3, on my Presario Notebook AMD64.

It is "fine", it starts all good, and goes into Gnome.. there is when i press CTRL + ALt+ F1 to go to my shell, there.. my monitor goes crazy, but the computer still working.. it start passing like a movie casting. VERY FAST...

well i want to change the default X server, i want it to be KDE. not Gnome, and i want to see if anybody can help me to solve the console problem. mmmm :S

so there are 2 problems.. solve the console problem. and then, from the console, change some file (u gonna tell me) to make KDE my default.

by the way, i changed my /etc/inittab "default runlevel from 5 to 3.. and it works fine... totallly. i hit "kdm" but it goes into Gnome.. after it start s X server, i i try to go back to console, and BOOM

thanks

I'm not sure if I understood correctly, but it sounds like you want to switch your default desktop environment. I think that's different from your X server. On fedora 2 they have a program called 'switchdesk' for that. I think it is on Core 3, also. Try using that. It's straightforward.

try the switchdesk command. in X it pops up a window you can choose from. if you haven't started X yet then try:

javb$ switchdesk
Please specify one of either KDE, GNOME, XFCE, FVWM or WindowMaker
javb$ switchdesk KDE

Anyway, you don't need to press CONTROL+ALT+F1 to get a console. Look in Gnome menus and open one without leaving X. Then you can try running swithdesk.

You probably have access to that application in the Gnome menu also.
