In linux being root means you are as a root user which has its home directory as /root, and when you login to your root account you reside inside the same directory.
where as when you are referring to your var/www/html means you have to go to filesystem root i.e. "/" directory thus try /var/www/html and you will be able to rech in.

Thanks
Swapnil

You know it is under var/www/html ?

It is rather under:
/var/www/html

small typo, big difference

The directory in there may not have the name you think it has.
Code:
ls -al /var/www/html
will show what is in there - as well as tell you about potentially insufficient permissions.

or do:
cd /var/www/html
and then:
ls -al

Once you know the name you can cd into there like you did try.
