change default kernel

ok, I'm about as noob as it gets, I just switched (on a whim) from XP to Mandriva One livecd install over the weekend...I'm [-] this close to having everything set just how I want it (not bad for a first-timer, eh?) but I'm slightly confused about something...how do I change the default boot kernel in LILO? There's 5 of them showing in the bootloader window and I need the one I have customized to boot by default.

funny thing, My First Linux experience is much the same as my first Windows experience (3.1, that'd make for an interesting dual-boot)

If there's any other info needed just let me know.

edit /etc/lilo.conf
and add this for e.g.
default=linux-uwe

image = /boot/vmlinuz
label = linux
root = /dev/sda6
vga = 791
initrd = /boot/initrd

image = /boot/vmlinuz.uwe
label = linux-uwe
root = /dev/sda6
vga = normal
initrd = /boot/initrd.uwe

As you see it looks for the label statement
Thats it.

BUT USE GRUB (just a nice hint...)

GRUB huh? ok, stupid question time...can I install/run GRUB w/out hosing my install?

not 3 minutes after editing lilo.conf did my machine decide that /dev/hdb5 (my music drive) had been mounted 20 times and needed a "force check". WTF??

*edit...video problem fixed

Here you can download grub
ftp://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/grub/
here is a good how to install grub natively

there is also a Thread in LQ and a post from jkobrien
just use grub-install that will do everything for you and don't remove lilo maybe you'll use it again... but why??
