Chage / SSH Authentication Failure
Let me say that I am Linux amateur as best. So, there may be part of this question that don't make sense.
I am using a RHEL (5.6) server that has several accounts used by external devices. During a recent password change for these devices, the chage -d0 command was used to expire the pw. Afterward, a user would then, on behalf of the device, SSH into localhost and choose a new password. Unfortunately, when the user tried to SSH device@localhost, he received an authentication error and never received the prompts for changing the password.
As a test, I created a dummy account, chage -d0 the password and then ssh dummy@localhost and everything worked as expected.
With my limited Linux exposure, I am pretty much scratching my head. Anyone have any ideas, or encounter this with 5.6?
