chage -d 0 does not prompt for password change on first login
Hello All,
I know this post may be silly but I am unable to find any solution to my problems. I have created a new user janedoe using the useradd command. And after that I have used the chage command in this way chage -d 0 janedoe However, when I ssh to the box, and try to login as janedoe, it does not prompt me for password change. It just asks for the password that I never set and hence I am unable to login. Any help will be appreciated. I apologize if this post is too silly. Thanks a ton! Cheers, Swati |
and what does
chage -l janedoe tell her once she's logged in? |
Ok, my silliness. What I had assumed is that after issuing the chage command, the user will be immediately prompted for a password change when he/she tries to log in. What I had not known is that the user must be "given" a password which he/she must know to login and as soon as the user is logged in, he/she can change it.
I am sorry for the confusion and thanks a lot. Cheers, Swati |
