CentOS won't boot - help needed for a newbie
hey all!
as a bit of a project for work and to further my learning I've built a CentOS 4 box but after it's been running fine for months it's suddenly stopper working :( here's what happens: power up and it seems to start ok, but suddenly stops with this error: Code:
EXT3-fs error (device dm-0): ext3_get_inode_loc: unable to read inode block - in ode=3735830, block=7471114 Code:
Enter runlevel: EXT3-fs error (device dm-0): ext3_get_inode_loc: unable to read inode block - in ode=3735830, block=7471114 my stab at it: it looks like a harddrive error, so if it was windows I'd run chkdsk or the like...... but it's not so i don't know really ;) lol can anyone help a confused windows admin at all? virtual cookies or beers are available :D lol |
Well, looks like somehow you managed to break the filesystem, or your harddisk broke.
I suggest you a) download and burn KNOPPIX from a working computer b) google for "fsck" and read up on how to use it c) boot the b0rk3d computer on the freshly burnt knoppix disc d) use fsck to fix the broken harddisk e) marvel at all the porn you thought you had lost forever. Cheers -Rob |

seriously though, cheers mate. I was planning on doing just that so it's good to see even a lowly windows admin like me can come up with a reasonable course of action. ;) |
No problem, In every windows monkey there is a linux guru trying to get out.
