Question CentOS not displaying gnome

Hi
After booting my PC which is running CentOS, it did not display the desktop. It just displayed a terminal window and a firefox browser all on a black screen!
How can this be fixed?

Cheers

How did you start X?

Also, does entering "gnome-session" in the GUI terminal bring up the desktop?

So you're in the command line?

When you installed CentOS, what installation option did you choose (i.e., Desktop, Minimal, Server, etc.)?

As best as I can recall--it's been a while--"minimal" and "server" do not install X.

I'm also puzzled as to how Firefox could run if there were no GUI.

If you can log in as root, try "yum install gnome-desktop." I'm not 100 percent sure that the correct package is "gnome-desktop" and I have no way of checking right now, but I'm 90% sure.

There's a good list of useful yum cmds here http://kbase.redhat.com/faq/docs/DOC-2531

Also, try

Code:
cat /etc/inittab
& post results.
