writ protecting the kernel read-only data: 684K
kernel panic-not syncing: No init found. Try passing init= option to kernel

I guess starting with the basics will be best here. Have you tried this install media or tested it on another machine? What type of CDRom do you have? If SATA, try IDE. If you have installed from it before try cleaning the CDrom lens with the CDrom cleaner. This may not help but it would be the first step for me.

I had the same problem. I believe it is a bug in the current release as I have an older Centro 4.1 in another box.

The latest CentOS is running just fine for me. From the look of it, though, there does to be something of a hardware issue involved. The linuxrc message reminds me of my attempts to install Mepis, which apparently can't handle P965 motherboards - it would invariably show that same message, no matter what I tried. Have you looked into the available boot arguments? Fedora 5 wouldn't install either for me without those.

It could easily be a bad CD. Did you check the MD5 of the ISO? If so and it was right, try re-burning at a slower speed -- this has helped me in the past.

Do a md5sum on the iso file and compare it with that from the site is 100 times faster!
