centos & redhat rpm


Can i install Centos rpm 6 arch x86_64 on Redhat 6 arch x86_64 ?

yes, they're generally totally compatible, especially putting generic EL6 RPM's on RHEL.

Thanks but i am getting below errors while installing on redhat machine. Below is the error and the repo on my machine.

Loaded plugins: product-id, rhnplugin, security, subscription-manager
Updating Red Hat repositories.
Cleaning up Everything
# yum install perl perl-Module* perl-XML-Simple perl-ExtUtils* perl-Proc-PID-File perl-Proc-Daemon.noarch perl-Net-SNMP perl-Net-IP Loaded plugins: product-id, rhnplugin, security, subscription-manager
Updating Red Hat repositories.
http://192.20.3.32/centos/5Server/x8...ta/repomd.xml: [Errno 14] HTTP Error 404: Not Found
Trying other mirror.
Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: base_local. Please verify its path and try again






# cat local_base.repo
[base_local]
name=base_local
baseurl=http://192.20.3.32/centos/$releasever/$basearch
gpgcheck=0
enable=1

this worked as i had to do hardcore syntax. replaced with below sytax

baseurl=http://192.20.3.32/centos/6/x86_64

Ahh well you shouldn't be doing that. Instead you should install the centos-release package, this will update all teh repo files correctly and basically rebrand the server as CentOS.
