CentOS 7 login fail

CentOS Linux 7 (core)
Kernel 3.10.0-299.el17.x86_64 on an x86_64
local host login:kd
[kd@localhost ~]$

The above is what displays on a black screen.
The program was d/l to DVD and then installed on a usb stick and booted from there. No password.

This is the second installation. On the first, a pw was specified but at login, it would not accept input from the keyboard except the enter key which resulted in Incorrect Password.

Help would be much appreciated.

Passwords are not echoed so it appears like keyboard inputs are not being accepted. This is normal. Just type the password at the password prompt in the "blind" and press the enter key.

If all that was installed was a basic system i.e. no GUI then what you posted is also normal. Do you want to install a desktop?

as to that "black" screen
that is the text terminal

you did not install a GUI
thus there is no DESKTOP manager installed

no graphics

you type everything

or

install the default desktop
Gnome3

I thought it was an incomplete boot. Got the GNOME and things are working.
Thanks for taking the time and effort to help.

Michael, your comment about the desktop got me pointed in the right direction. Searching the internet for an installation routine for GNOME led in confusing ways until I tried a reinstall and found the desktop program ready to go on the iso disk.
Now I am ready to resume the Linux tutorial with an operating system for practice thanks to the generous help from the forum.
