CentOS 6.5 32 vs 64
 

Hi,

I have a dell inspiron n5050 i3, 8GB of RAM and a 120GB SSD drive. My question is if you recommend using CentOS 6.5 32 or 64 bits?
I use the system for emails, browse the internet, update my financials (gnucash), watch videos, etc.
I run a XP virtual machine with 1GB of ram. My HD is partition 100 for win7 and 20GB for Centos.
Please advice.

Unless the machine has less than 3GB of RAM, I always recommend 64-bit. It'll run faster, be more flexible, allow you to run applications that require more RAM, and doesn't have any drawbacks that I can think of.

I haven't used 32-bit Linux in so long, things might have changed. But I think an ordinary user doing the activities the OP listed should see no significant difference between 32-bit and 64-bit.

OK, I will use 64bit. Thank you! I just need to edit my swap partition because when I install it uses 8GB for swap but I can't afford to give so much space for swap on a SSD. I will decrease to just 4GB.

In that config, I would have either a 2GB swap partition or none at all. You are very unlikely to have any need of 4GB of swap.

Ok, yeah I was wondering if creating a 4GB swap was needed. If it wasn't for my job, I would only use CentOS but there are some applications that will only run (or run well) in a W$ndows environment such as MsAccess, AS/400 emulator/data transfer/print spooler, etc. -- also, we use Dell printers which to be honest is nearly impossible to find linux drivers for... :@ Thanks all for your answers!
