CentOS 6.3 issues help

I currently have 2 issues with Cent OS and would appreciate any help,

issue 1: The OS thinks I have two desktops therefore I cant see anything because im on the desktop with nothing on it so I can't do anything, I know that in the live cd i fixed this by making a new folder going to its parent and then opening display but I cant do that now, how do i fix this?

issue 2: My Belkin N150 adapter isn't working at all, how can i get this to work so i can actually use my internet?
