CentOS 5.3 lock screen?
 

I have just installed CentOS 5.3 and noticed that the lock screen option is not present on the System menu (only Log out and Shut Down). Does anyone know how to enable the lock screen option on the menu?

Just hit Ctrl Alt L by default or change the hotkey in the keyboard shortcuts tool.

Hi, I've tried as suggested but it only black out the screen. When I move the mouse or press any key on the keyboard, it does not prompt you for password.

Yes, CTRL + ALT + L only blacks out the screen but it does not lock it.

System / Preferences / Keyboard Shortcuts is good to know but it has a disappointingly short list of commands that can be configured. And does anyone know which key is XF86PowerOff by any chance? ;)

But back to the original question, does anyone know how to trigger the lock screen functionality? A command line instruction will do for now.

Install gconf-editor from Add/Remove Software, then go to Applications --> System Tools --> Configuration Editor. Under Apps --> Panel --> Global look for "disable_lock_screen" and if it is checked, uncheck it.

Hello! In Centos 6.2, they moved the command to Desktop/gnome/lockdown. You can still check the other option, but it says it is deprecated and doesn't seem to work.
