CentOS 5.3 32bit on Citrix XenServer NO graphical interface

Hi everybody,

this is my first time in this forum, and I am a Linux newbie.

I have installed Citrix Xen-Server on my server and managed to install Windows 2003 R2 Server successfully.

I also installed CentOS 5.3. The installation went fine, however, I cannot get Gnome or KDE going. I only have the text interface.

This is the message I get, when I type in "startx":

Code:
Build Operating System: Linux 2.6.18-53.1.14.el5PAE i686 Red Hat, Inc.
Current Operating System: Linux alfresco 2.6.18-128.el5xen #1 SMP Wed Jan 21 11:55:02 EST 2009 i686
Build Date: 21 January 2009
Build ID: xorg-x11-server 1.1.1-48.52.el5

I have installed CentOS using a FTP server where the files where located.

Can somebody help me here? IF you need more information, please let me know.

Thanks a lot.

Try running /usr/bin/xorgcfg or /usr/bin/xorgconfig to generate a configuration file. Then try startx again.

Hi,

If you install CentOS/RHEL/Xnix in citrix with the templates available (other than the option 'other install media'), u will not get the X11 screen inside Citrix Xen center. You need to follow the steps:

1. Start X11 with init 5 - still u cannot see
2. edit /root/.vnc/xstartup and uncomment the X11 options (may be 2 & 3rd line)
3. execute vncserver
4. provide a strong password when you are prompted
5. Wait for a session- you will be informed with the X11 session like 1,2,3 or 4
6. Open VNC on your Desktop and access with the IP:session from VNC viewer

NOTE: Do not install servers with other install Media option. If you do, u cannot install Xen tools. u face performance issues and need to reinstall the server again.

Also refer Para virtualization and Hardware Virtualization.
