CDROM won't mount w/ Debian Sarge

After installing Debian Sarge, I can't mount/read my cdrom drive.

This is odd because the computer read from the cdrom in order to install Debian.

fstab entry:
/dev/hdd none /media/cdrom0 iso ro,user,noauto 0 0

I've received several warnings, the most common:
"/dev/hdd is not a valid block device"

I have read that Debian needs to be tricked into reading ide cdroms as scsi devices. This means that the cdrom drive will register as two devices... and that modules, ide-scsi and ide-cd must or must NOT be run at the same time. Argh!

Many thanks in advance.

Ah-ha, problem solved

I am a boogar-eating moron, but I did solve the problem.

This is a new machine/installation...I mistakenly had my cd-rw jumpered to slave, but hooked the drive to the cable as a master. After realizing my mistake, I switched the cable position.

The end result of my brilliance: a /etc/fstab entry for a cd-rw on hdd, and a dmesg indicating that hdc was the cd-rw.

Changed the /etc/fstab entry to /dev/hdc and life is much better.

Sorry to bug you folks. Hope this provides help to someone stumped by there cd-rw.
