CDROM problem
 

Hello,

I'm new to linux. I'm trying to install RedHat 8.0

the GUI option of the installation programs sees my
IDE DVD/ROM as SCSI and asks me for a driver that I don't have.

Yes, Red Hat Linux 8.0 is dead no support............

Please use a supported version of Red Hat if staying with the Red Hat family try CentOS, Fedora Core or Scientific Linux. Both CentOS and Scientific Linux have supported versions (the 3.X series for both) that are based on the older 2.4 kernels (like RHL8.0) and are freely downloadable. The Fedora Core series is the replacement for the old Red Hat Linux series, the latest (FC5) along with the latest from CentOS and Scientific Linux (4.X series for both) are all based on the newer 2.6 kernel series. If your hardware is newer then say 2002 then it would be a good idea to use the one of the latest released versions from anyplace;

RedHat 8 is now several years old and no longer receives updates. If your equipment is fairly recent, you will have a huge number of problems with it. Your best bet is to download Fedora as that is the community version of the Red Hat distro.
