CDRom mounts OK but has read problems...

Hi I am new to linux, I am trying to copy files off a CD to HD.
The CD mounts ok, I can read the directories through the konsole (using mc) but not through Konqueror.
When I try to copy files through mc I get read errors all the time.
The CD is definitely ok as it works fine in my second machine (I have copied complete contents).
The drive plays music CD's OK.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

Does Konqueror give any errors? and what exactly are the error messages that mc gives?

It could be a problem with your CD-drive maybe

Could you paste the errors?

Normally if you get lots of DMA errors together with "Readahead Write Complete" errors it means that the laser is dirty or damaged.

There are cleansing disks for the first problem, but regarding the second you will probably like to buy new hardware rather than to get the old repaired.
