CDRecord accidently put in DVD

Is there a way to find out what type of media is being used so that CDRecord will not continue if there is a rewriteable dvd inside the drive?

i've not got media to hand to check this, but i'd bet a whole pile of cash that there will be something reliable and very obvious from the output of "cdrecord -atip other stuff"
