CD Writer in SuSe 7.3

Help!
My Cd writer won't write. It just tells me to enable ide-scsi in the kernel. I'm scared to mess around after recent digital camera mess ups (solved with a SanDisk card reader ) and a full reinstall. The CD Writer is called CD Recorder in it's desktop icon properties and it works as a CD ROM.

I'm using SuSe 7.3.

Thanks

Note: everything must be done as root and during bootup notice which device is your CD-RW hdc or hdd or something else, if you missed it type
dmesg | less
and use arrow keys to navigate till you find your CD-RW device initializing, press
q
when you're done.
The following is valid if the drive is detected as hdd or secondary slave on your system!

try this. First off back up you /etc/lilo.conf
in terminal type
cp /etc/lilo.conf /etc/lilo.conf.bak
open up for editing /etc/lilo.conf
It should something like this prompt

timeout=50
default=linux
boot=/dev/hda
map=/boot/map
install=/boot/boot.b
message=/boot/message
lba32

image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.4.7-10enterprise
label=linux
initrd=/boot/initrd-2.4.7-10enterprise.img
read-only
root=/dev/hdb7
Now add the following line right after root=/....

append="hdd=ide-scsi"

so it looks something like this

image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.4.7-10enterprise
label=linux
initrd=/boot/initrd-2.4.7-10enterprise.img
read-only
root=/dev/hdb7
append="hdd=ide-scsi"

now in the command line type

insmod ide-scsi

now try

cdrecord -scanbus

it should list the CD-RW as scsi device.
To make changes permanent
type

/sbin/lilo

and open the following file for editing

/etc/rc.local

and add at the end

insmod ide-scsi

save your changes and you're ready to go.
