Cant verify checksum off ISO file after downloading with Win XP Firefox
Hi,
I am really new to this, so please bare with me. I have DL SUSE 9.1 Personal image file (.iso) from the website LQ ISO using the download tool in Firefox 1.0 on my Win XPSP1 laptop. I am supposed to verify the DL with MD5SUM. The DL went well but the file is automatically stored as a RAR file on my desktop. Is this okay? Then when I ran the MD5Sum file to verify the folder, I get an error which says the file is empty. Running Win RAR verifies that the ISO image file is there and I also checked with Nero and it detects the ISO image within the RAR compressed file. I increased the virtual mem on my Fujitsu P5010 to system managed, in cased the XP needs more ram to run MD5SUM on a 700 MB file. Am I doing something wrong here? Should I DL the file again? Why is the file being DL automatically as a WINRAR compressed file? How do I verify the ISO image? ? Thank you very much for any pointers. |
First it is NOT a RAR, only windows THINKS it's a RAR (I fell in that pit too, in the early years :+ )
Did you download the .md5 file? |
I only downloaded the image file and recorded the checksum string next to it. I guess I was expecting to verify this string against the one that will be produced when I run the MD5sum app on the dl'ed file. Am I rite?
