Cant shutdown puppy linux aka Linux 2.6.33.2(i686)

sometimes also it wont start up correctly and I have to do the reboot command because everything loads with done next to it, except for setting up services. Then Sometimes I will be prompted with the "#" after all this and am forced to use the "reboot" command. Then when I try to shut down it does but then right away puppy linux comes back up. I have no idea how this started to happen. Is there a way to repair my installation? Please help!

No. It's just easier to fix with a frugal install by deleting the personal save file with a puppy pfix=ram boot.

On a full install. I guess because I don't run full installs on my boxes. You could try the boot cheatcode

puppy pfix=clean or puppy pfix=purge

Quote:

Pfix

pfix=ram will run Puppy totally in RAM and ignore saved sessions/storage file(s)
pfix=<n> where <n> is the number of saved sessions to ignore for a multisession-CD
pfix=rdsh will exit to initial ramdisk commandline (do not pivot_root)
pfix=usbcard for booting from USB flash drive via USB 2.0 to PCMCIA adapter
pfix=clean will force a simulated version upgrade (for Puppy 2.13 and later)
pfix=purge will force an even more radical file cleanup (to fix broken system) (for Puppy 2.14 and later)
pfix=#debug may help with debugging
pfix=copy or nocopy controls if main sfs file is loaded (copied) to RAM

Boot cheat codes are given at the boot puppy screen. A live cd boot should be able to handle this. I hope. Like I said. I don't run full installs of Puppy linux. Just frugal installs.

I may be talking rubbish here, and this is a hunch, but have you tried booting with

Puppy pfix=purge

at the 5 second bootscreen from a live CD boot

I think it should still pick up the filesystem from the hard drive, ..... but may be wrong

pfix=purge is the filesystem repair parameter, AFAIK

Later on in that same thread is said.

Note: The below statement was done in a live cd session. Hardrive was probably mounted with pmount. Then all content in /tmp folder was deleted.

faced with the same problem in 4.1.2 I have found your posting and did exactly as you recommend - deleted all the contents of /tmp/ folder
and this has solved the problem - I was able to restart with no problem

Notice the title says full install, not frugal.
