Cant send mail

Hello.

I am trying to set up a MTA with exim4. I am able to install and configure it to send mail out, but can't send any mail. I type mail -s "Hello" user@example.com (just for posting), it looks like it is sent but I can't never receive any mail from that server.

I even send it to my yahoo account but the email never arrives.

Are all the other mail servers not accepting any mail from servers that are not registered?

Please help me understand what's wrong. Thank you.

Hello,

What do your mail logs say?

Does the server have access to reach the internet on port 25?

Is DNS properly configured?

A lot of problems could be happening, which is why the mail logs are a good place to start looking to track down the problem.

To test that you are allowed to make smtp connections to the internet try:

> telnet gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com 25

Hi,

Open a terminal, and as root type
tail -f /var/log/exim4/mainlog
open another terminal and sent the mail
look in the first terminal for errors.

If you don't use a smarthost (sending mail directly) and you have a dynamic IP, most smtp servers will refuse the mail.
