cant see .forward file in home directory >> mail forward/copy

Im trying to forward and copy mail by putting a .forward file in each home directory that i want mail copied and forwarded from.

In fact i have 5 users.

When i log in as root, i can see the root user home directory, and all the users 1 through 4 directories, but only in root and user1 can i see the files inside the directory called dead.letter , mbox etc..why is this??

The other users are working fine. If i put a .forward in user1's home folder, the mail forward and copy works, but not in th eothers..??

Ive checked the group member ship and all users are members of 'users group' so i think this is the correct way.

Any ideas??
