Hi there starking!

Welcome to LinuxQuestions.org. You're getting a black screen because you don't have the right codecs. I'd recommend you using mplayer. It's a great player for practically everything: Dvd, VCD, ogg, mp3, DiVx.. you name it.

You can also grab the latest codecs from their download page. I believe mplayer's codec would also work with Xine (never tried myself, but since they work with avifile, I'd guess it should also work with everything else).

If you choose to install mplayer, compile it from source, it's just better and easier then rpm's in this case. Read the README docs before download/installing anything. It's pretty easy to install. If you have any problems or do not understand any part of the doc, let us know.

Regards!

I also tried to compile mplayer and it gave me other head aches!

I downloaded the sources and essential codecs from the official ( at least that's what they said ) site and i configured them ./configure --with-codecsdir=blabalb --enable-gui ok ... that went well !
BUT when i try to compile it just stops telling me there is no file /libavcodec/libavcodec.a ... how can this happen ?
If u guys compiled it and still have the sources please look at them and tell me if u hav that file in your sources tree ...
