cant play dvds right

hey there,
my VLC, Movie Playe (totem), Mplayer, and Kafiene wont read DVD movies correctly.
I mean VLC crashes and closes at once, movie player says " error reading from source" or something like that, m player stops at every single second then continue to stop to the other, and kaffiene wont even show the movie...
I have libdvdcss downloaded, and i could play original DVDs, but with copies I cant seem to do that..

what should I do?
is there any fix i can download or i just hav to have original DVDs which are not available in our country?

thank u in advance..

oh yeah .. im running Ubuntu 8.04 studio...

Do you have the DeCSS stuff installed? Without it, you won't be able to decode the DVD playback.

is "libdvdnav ", and "libdvdread" installed along with the mplayer "all-20071007.tar.bz2" codec

So, you're trying to view a DVD outside your region-code ? In that case your best bet is to flash RPC1 firmware. Otherwise, the drive usually limits reading to 1x which makes copying VOBs slow, and watching the movie difficult. Technically, even with regular firmware, you can watch a DVD outside your region just fine, but usually xine tends to be more tolerant of strange DVDs. Make sure you have libdvdcss properly installed.
