Q: Can Ubuntu ping XP by IP address?
Q: Can XP ping Ubuntu by IP address?
Q: does "ipconfig" show the correct IP, subnet mask and gateway (in XP)?
Q: does "/usr/sbin/ifconfig" also show the correct IP, subnet mask and gateway (in Ubuntu)?
Q: Can both hosts ping the gateway?

ip config in xp is where i got the ip info. the default is set too wireless gateway. right now i cant connect to the internet with both lan and wlan enabled on xp.
xp pings ubuntu by ip in cmd prompt.
ubuntu cant ping xp
no gateway ping with xp or ubuntu
xp will ping gateway when wireless is enabled

ifconfig in ubuntu shows ip addy and subnet but no gateway
in network connections it does show the gateway
