Unhappy cant mount cdrom!!want to switch over from suse to redhat...plz help me out


hi all,
i m running suse linux 10 on my hp 2133 laptop which doesnt have a cdrom..i want to install redhat el5.i have connected ide-usb cable(from my another desktop cdrom to my laptop usb) and inserted redhat cd in the cdrom but it doesnt get automount or manual mount..plz let me know what command should i type after inserting cd to get mounted and also let me know whether there will be any problem to install redhat over suse(i m new to linux)..plz help me out with this problem as i want to prepare for rhce exam..

An alternate method would be to stick with SUSE, hopefully your running OpenSUSE 10.3, and load QEMU and KQEMU via YaST.

At that point, you can pull down the RH iso's and install RH on a virtual disk and train on RH with the QEMU emulator.

This way, depending on disk space, you can keep any number of Linux distributions handy for experiments.

This could very well be a permission issue as you are introducing a new device to the system. But I'm not 100% sure. Let's see first whether the kernel recognizes the device:

Plug in your external cd-rom drive... just wait a few seconds for the device to settle down and type this:
