can't mount an linux partition from an secondary drive
hi
I have installed a new drive in my computer and it has only linux fedora core 4 installed on it.I am desperatly trying to mount the partition but it's not working
I used the /sbin/fdisk -l comand so i would know what the partition name. i got this :
Disk /dev/hda: 160.0 GB, 160041885696 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 19457 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Disk /dev/hdd: 30.0 GB, 30020272128 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 3649 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/hdd1 * 1 13 104391 83 Linux
/dev/hdd2 14 3649 29206170 8e Linux LVM
and tryed to mount using: mount /dev/hdd2 /mnt/sec_drv -t auto
It didn't work because i had to specify a filesystem type.
My question is:
What is the filesystem for that partition?? Or what am i doing wrong
Thenx
Unless you really want a LVM partition on this HD, change the tpye of /dev/hdd2 to 83 (Linux). After that, create a filesystem on it and you ready to go.
The commands:
# fdisk /dev/hdd (t, 2, 83, w are the keys to change the type of partition 2 to 83 and write the modifications).
i have an fedora core 4 on bolth hdd's, I belive it would help if you understood that when i instaled linux i let it make the partitions. So now i have a lot of info that i must extract from my second hdd. I can't boot form my second hdd(the one i am trying to mount) because linux was installed on a nother sistem.

/dev/hda11 on /boot type ext3 (rw)
/dev/shm on /dev/shm type tmpfs (rw)
