You ought to repent right away and stop your wicked ways.

Loging in as root is bad bad practice, it's bad via ssh and worse
in a GUI. Use sudo sensibly instead.

this is do to chances in Gnome ( and redhat/cent/fedora...)
the short answer is this
you do not ,at least using Gnome .
there is a hack BUT IT HAS some "not so nice" problems .I would NOT use that .

the best way is to install KDE and use KDM in booting and NOT use GDM

also it is a VERY bad idea to be loging in as root
you can ,however, start a second nautilus session ( from the terminal) as root

Code:
su -
( your root password when asked)
nautilus
DO NOT GET IN THE HABIT OF THIS

thanks for reply, the problem is if i wants to change display setting it ask me root password , if i wants to do su in terminal it asks me root password, i need to run wireshark i have installed but it ask root password, so i am stuck on that place, it is not accepting the root password in vnc but it works well in ssh, i dont know how i can revers this process and install KDE which at least let me install few programs and fix the display issue

if " su - " is not accepting the root password , then you are using the wrong password !!

use the install dvd and change the root pasword
