cant install Sun Java on Fedora 7
hiya all,
total linux newbie here, so please bare with me if i say anything stupid :) i am trying to get Azureus installed but obviously i need to install Java first. so i went to the java download site and grabbed both the self extracting archive and the rpm self extracting archive. they download fine to the desktop but then when i double click on either file i just get an error message about the associated helper application not existing and that i need to change my preferences. its at this point i hit a dead end, i've tried changing the preferences so that it'll load with something else, nothing has worked. i thought it was just a case of double clicking the file and the install utility will get on with it. any ideas what im doing wrong? ok, problem was the file was corrupted so i got the proper one and got the rpm file extracted. but when i try to install it with the 'rpm -iv' command i just get an error message saying that
Preparing packages for installation... package jre-1.6.0_03-fcs is already installed and drops back to the command line, i've tried uninstalling the Java support from add/remove programs but that hasn't made any difference. any ideas? |
